Melbourne City Council required a pedestrian protection solution that was visually and physically unobtrusive, around the Melbourne CBD, in Victoria, Australia.
Saferoads supplied a number of OmniStop Ultra Bollards as a safety solution for the CBD area, in and around tram stops and other busy pedestrian areas.
On December 21, 2017, these bollards stopped an errant vehicle that had been driven into a crowd of people on Flinders Street. Sadly, prior to the car hitting the bollard, 19 people were injured. Luckily the bollard was there to stop further injuries or even deaths.
More recently, on December 13, 2018, a car ran into one of the bollards, on the corner of Flinders and Elizabeth Streets. The bollard stopped the vehicle from causing further damage and chaos during the evening commute, without injuring the driver.
